▌About Dog Brushing

Brushing aims to remove tangles, mats, and dead hair from your dog's coat, keeping them clean and healthy. It also stimulates the skin and promotes blood circulation!

On the other hand, if you don't brush your dog, you might not notice illnesses or injuries such as dermatitis.

Therefore, this time, I'd like to talk about "brushing" !

▌What happens if you don't brush...

If you don't brush, you might not notice skin abnormalities and let them worsen. Try brushing as part of your dog's health check!

Also, if you don't brush properly, mats can form. When mats form, the hair in that area is pulled, causing pain. This is especially important for long-haired dogs!

▌ Areas Prone to Matting

Mats often form in areas where hair rubs together, as shown below. Brush regularly to ensure your dog lives in a healthy environment.
  • Ear fringes
  • Inner thighs
  • Chest
  • Armpits
  • Tuck-up

▌What to do if your dog dislikes brushing?

  • Help them get used to being touched by people and not being wary of the brush

Spend a lot of time bonding with them to build trust and get them used to people!

    • Use tools that reduce the burden during brushing, such as a soft slicker brush that doesn't compress the throat

A soft slicker brush with rounded tips is also recommended as it causes less pain when it touches the skin compared to a hard one!

      • Praise them a lot and give them treats when they finish well

Personally, I think this is the most important thing! My dog initially didn't let me brush her much, but after I started giving her treats when she finished, now she sits in front of me as soon as I pick up the slicker brush ✨

Even if your dog dislikes brushing, help them get used to it gradually with short sessions to maintain the health of their skin and coat!
